While creating a business name may seem like a difficult task, it really should not be if you setup the guidelines for creating a business name first. If you follow this quick outline that I made you, it can help you create some wonderful business names and ideas.
First, think about what your business is about? What are you selling your customers? What do you want them to know about your business? Are there specific characteristics about your business that should stand out more than others? Do you want a unique business name or one that is simple and to the point? Who are your customers? Are they men or women? What is their age range? What would be appealing to that gender and age group? What do you offer that your competitors don't? Why did you get in to business? Is it a family business? Is your business designed to save people money or to offer something that no other business has?
Answering these questions will help to simplify your business and let you understand what your business really entails. After you answer the questions, think of some keywords that incorporate your business ideas. Try to group some of the words together. If you get stuck on using the same words over, try using a thesaurus to help you come up with some new words and ideas: http://thesaurus.reference.com. At the end of the blog I am going to give you an example of the strategy I followed when trying to help a friend come up with a business name.
When you have a list compiled, ask some friends and family what they think of the names and what kind of business the name represents to see if you really focused on the meaning of your business. This can definitely be a daunting task, but don't stress about it. Take some time to think about it and do some research. If you get too caught up and frustrated, take some time and do something else and come back to it later. Business names are not created over night and you should really take some time to think about it because you want it to be perfect. Example of how I helped a friend come up with her business name:
My friend was opening a shop that sells bouquets, arrangements and baskets using artificial flowers. Her theme was to sell realistic looking flowers that when you touch them or look at them, they feel and look real. The purpose was to design these amazing looking flowers because she was sick of buying real flowers that would die within a few days. She was targeting her business towards women of all ages, mostly women that wanted to decorate their home or workplace nicely without spending a fortune and by offering them an alternative to flowers that always die. This is how we came up with some ideas. We thought of keywords that represented her business and idea and here is what we came up with:
Beauty, Elegance, Lasting, Appealing, Delicate, Allure, Blooming
Flowers, Gardens, Bouquets, Arrangements
The final name: Everlasting Gardens- Where beauty lives forever.
We chose this name because it represented her business well. Everlasting because the flowers will last forever and gardens because flowers grow in gardens and can be used to make decorative arrangements, bouquets and basically everything she designs for her business. The purpose of her business is to create beautiful pieces that last forever and won't die which is why the "where beauty lives forever" slogan was incorporated.
Final thought, be creative and spend your time doing it. Don't throw it together. Incorporate your business ideas and good themes. Get some help from other business professionals or friends and family.
